I started reading Shaw starting from Pygmalion, on which i will write shortly. From there i decided to download all his Works in E Book Form from Multiple Sites, and Started reading the same in Alphabetical Order. I came across An Unsocial Socialist in the series and found it to be a very interesting , yet relatively unknown work of Shaw. The book caused me to look at his profile at Wikipedia, which proved very helpful in understand the Novel's circumstances.
It is now my belief that along with the Socialism way of thinking, he adopted the Russian Literature's strengths to describe his true believes. The inspiration of all Russian Authors ( To old Masters like Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky) is from Gogol, who always inserted a humerus vein to describe the most desperate of situations. Similarly, Shaw also presented his most serious Ideas in the shape of Comedy.
Many of Author's own Interests like Photography, and his motives behind its selection for a life time inspiration are shown in the book. The book throws a very interesting light at the then conditions of Peoples thoughts, ideas and life style.
On a later thought, i concluded that the Hero of this Novel might be an English Adaptation of Tolstoy's last years forsaking of his house, property and land. Although Tolstoy kept on trying to give away all his property throughout his life but could not do so. In the last years however he did it and died while traveling along with his grand daughter.
The hero of this novel also forsakes his wealth, title and wife, but cannot continue and ultimately comes back a champion of his cause in his old place in society, shunning and clinging to it at the same time.
Overall a book which cannot be put down once started.
